ST THOMAS à Becket Church, the United Reform Church and the village hall, Huntington, are once again preparing for its famous fete. The fete was founded in 1954 at Huntington Court, now home of William and Fiona Shone and it is still the venue for hundreds of Herefordians and Radnorshire people who visit it year after year.

It is to take place on Saturday at Huntington Court at 3pm. The Town Crier of Knighton, Derrick Price, MBE, will announce the fete and Harvey Jones, the former postman, who has recorded the fete photographically for the last 40 years, will open it.

It is probably the most traditional fete in Herefordshire. From 'guess the weight of the sheep' to the 'human fruit machine'; from the coconut shy to hundreds of helium balloons being set off in a race; to the many stalls, groaning with home made cakes, preserves and produce, there are fun and bargains for everyone. Then there is the record-breaking bookstall from Thames and Hudson; old-fashioned giant skittles, quoits of current politicians, 'wheel of fortune', 'splat-the rat' and so much more. Finally, there is live music from Bandamania, giving a lovely atmosphere as people enjoy their home made teas on the lawn, or eat strawberries and ice-cream, before everyone comes together for the final raffle draw to award the winners. There is a free bus from Mill Street, Kington at 2.30pm and return and entrance is free.
