ROGER Bright from Knighton was recently presented with the British Empire Medal.

The presentation took place on the estate of The Hon. Dame Shan Legge-Bourke the Lord Lieutenant of Powys. The Lord Lt. also invited members of Roger's family to attend when on arrival they were greeted with wine and spent the afternoon having tea and cakes with the Lord Lt.

This year Roger received the RAFA long service medal for over 50 years service to the association and a silver red kite award from Powys County Council for the service to the community.

He first became a committee officer in the mid 1940s following in the 50s vice chairman of the Scout group. He served 25 years on Knighton show committee, 14 years as chairman of the horticultural and handicraft show and has been chairman of the Knighton Town Forum since 1996.

In addition, Roger has been a councillor for the past 23 years, five times mayor and is the present vice chairman of Knighton and District RAFA.

He has also served on many county committees, has been a governor of PAVO and past chairman and President of Knighton Chamber of trade and and is still very active in his 85th year as chairman of the twinning committee.
