JESS Benjamin, an A level textiles design student at John Kyrle High School has progressed to the finals of the Young Fashion Designer UK competition.

The aims of the competition are to showcase and promote the exceptional work achieved by students studying textiles design, product design and fashion throughout the UK.

Throughout her studies, Jess has shown motivation, creative flair and great perseverance; in order that she could create her own exciting fabrics, which impressed the judges, Jess experimented with extensive use of CAD and used innovative techniques such as encapsulating fabric and sublimation printing.

Textiles teacher Vanessa Burley said, "Jess is an outstanding student who will surely make her mark in textile design and the fashion world. We are all really excited for her." Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths commended Jess and her teachers for this achievement. He said it reflected the range of opportunities offered within the school and the excellence of its students in so many different areas.
