A MAN who had been celebrating the news he was to become a grandfather again drove while he was above the limit, a court heard.

Vladimirs Kudrenickis, of Leddington, near Ledbury, pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Hereford Magistrates Court last week.

The court heard he had been driving a Land Rover on the A449 at Ledbury on April 5 when police spotted the car moving from side to side.

The vehicle stopped of its own accord, Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said, and a PCSO at the scene requested police assistance.

A road-side breath test was positive and Kudrenickis was arrested and taken to the police station where he gave a reading of 102mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Richard Wood, defending, said Kudrenickis was a hardworking man of previous good character.

He was not a 'habitual drinker', Mr Wood said, primarily because he had quite a serious brain injury around 10 years ago.

On this occasion he had been celebrating the news that he was to be a grandfather for the fifth time.

He made a decision to get in his car and deeply regretted that.

Magistrates disqualified Kudrenickis from driving for 25 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £300 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and costs of £100.
