LUCTONIANS inflicted a severe dent in Sandal's hopes of staying in National League 2 North after grabbing four late tries to win their penultimate match of the season 35-12.

The Kingsland side are now seventh in the division on 74 points, with their last game of the campaign take place at home to Sale this Saturday.

Lucs were trailing 12-9 after 65 minutes after Greg Wood kicked over four penalties for Sandal.

But a Freddie Potrykus yellow card swung the momentum back to Luctonians and they punished Sandal with a devastating spell of late pressure.

Luctonians led as early as the seventh minute with Alex James scoring from an interception on halfway and Johnny Morris added the conversion.

But the home side's high penalty count allowed Sandal back into the game and they led at half-time.

The yellow card then turned the game, leading to first Aiden Cheshire crashing over.

Louis Silver then converted his own try and Jordan Street secured the win after scoring from a driving maul.

Will Burton added gloss to the scoreline by finishing off a flowing move; Silver adding the conversion.

Luctonians, who were recently visited by rugby officials from the Czech Republic to see what the relationship the Mortimer Park club has with the RFU and the local community, will go above Harrogate into sixth if they win this Saturday and the Yorkshire side lose.

However, Harrogate finish their league campaign on May 14.

This Saturday's match between Luctonians and Sale also marks the end of captain Dan Smith's beard.

Smith last had a shave in October and will cut his beard off following the game, with proceeds raised going to Severn Hospice.
