A MAN accused of being verbally abusive to women as they left a bar in Hereford has been fined.

Daniel Smith of Kinnersley Close, Hereford pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a section 35 order to leave Hereford city centre.

Hereford Magistrates' Court heard that on February 27 in the early hours of the morning Smith was issued with the order following information from security staff at The Long Bar in Commercial Road.

The staff told police 24-year-old Smith had been hanging around outside the bar being abusive to female customers as they were leaving.

A woman had then remonstrated with him and lashed out- she was also given a section 35 order.

Smith refused to leave Commercial Road so he was arrested.

Marilena Divitantonio, defending, said Smith does not accept that he was being abusive to female customers.

She said he had had an argument with his girlfriend earlier in the evening and was trying to chat to a friend about it.

She said he did not have anywhere to stay that evening and was trying to get to the baptist church to go to the shelter for the evening.

The court heard he had a record and owed the court £705.

Magistrates fined him £50, ordered him to pay £135 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
