COUNTRY Park Supporters (CPS) and Newton Farmers (NF) volunteers took advantage of the fine weather recently, working hard to restore the foot/cycle way from Belmont Haywood Country Park through Newton Meadows, South Wye.
The very busy path had overgrown at the edges but it is now at least 50-100cm wider along most of its length and is the width it was when it was first made.
Phil Edwards, chairman of CPS and NF said, "The hard work done by volunteers is recreating a foot/cycleway which had been reduced to a single track which did not encourage walking as an enjoyable pastime. Unfortunately we still have a problem towards the end of the path where it becomes incredibly muddy and therefore quite dangerous for walkers and cyclists. We are looking at ways to address this problem as the local authorities can only offer limited support in our endeavours. We have gained some recycled tarmacadam planings but need more volunteers and/or a small dumper truck to assist us."
Phil Edwards is a Herefordshire councillor as well as a city councillor and with Mark Dykes also a city councillor, they have chosen to undertake - along with other volunteers - the work the councils are not in a position to do.
