MORE than 50 people will join together to get on their bikes and raise money for a county charity which supports people with visual impairments.

A full 24-hour spinathon is to be held on Friday February 26 at thePoint4, kicking off at 9am and raising money for the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC).

Teams taking part will have one person spinning – indoor cycling – on a bike during each sessions until the event ends at 9am the following day.

Ben Harwood, fitness manager at thePoint4, said: "This is the third year we've held the event. We started with 20 teams made up of mainly Point4 members and that grew to 34 teams last year and then this year we've got 52 teams.

"It's grown into a bit of a monster of an event really. The beauty of it is that anyone can do it. It's basically getting on a bike and spinning."

Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Charles Nicholls, will open the event and teams are made up of Point4 members, other gyms, a group of RNC students as well as a group of It's Our County councillors.

The 52 bikes have been donated by Full Cycle Studios and Hereford Academy and Mr Harwood hopes this year's event will take the total raised to more than £25,000 for the three years.

Those who aren't taking part can still get involved by attending a fundraising after party at Saxty's on Saturday February which is open to everybody.

Anyone who would like to donate can also call into the Point4 over the weekend of the event.
