THE boss of a fire-affected business said seeing Wednesday night's blaze was like "something out of the movies."

More than 40 firefighters and six fire engines, including one from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, tackled the fire at Haigh Industrial Estate in Alton Road, Ross-on-Wye.

Firefighters were on site until 6pm yesterday dampening down the fire, which hit two businesses- AquaHeat and Safety Shack.

Managing director of Safety Shack Bryan Mason said he was called out to his business when the fire service broke in and set off the intruder alarm.

He said: "It was like something out of the movies- I had never seen so many fire engines and I never knew there were so many firemen I knew.

"The fire service were brilliant. I don't know how they do it. At one point the gas cylinders were exploding and they got held back for their own safety."

The web-based business sells workwear and safety equipment and has been based there for four years.

They are currently still running a minimised service and hope to relocate to another unit in the town as soon as possible.

AquaHeat has been on the estate for more than ten years and is an independent plumbing and heating merchant.

There are 17 businesses at the industrial estate.

Landlord Mr Shepherd said: "These are all good local businesses run by good local people.

"When you have an incident like this, everyone just wants to get on with trading."

He said the fire crew were exemplary.

They do not know the cause of the fire at the moment and the fire service are keeping an open mind ahead of an investigation.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which started at 5.45pm. The businesses had closed at 5pm.
