AN IMPATIENT man threatened a shop worker before causing £950 worth of damage to an automated door.

Danny Robert Prince, 23, of Oak Road, Credenhill, Hereford, threatened the cashier at his local One Stop Shop after being fed up of waiting in a queue, he then stormed out and broke a door.

Prince pleaded guilty at Hereford Magistrates Court last week to using threatening and abusive language and £950 criminal damage.

Abbey Kingston, prosecuting, said that the incident happened on October 14, at around 5.15pm when cashier was serving a queue of customers.

"The defendant was waiting for a friend to be served when he became aggressive at how long the cashier was taking before swearing at her," said Mrs Kingston

"In response the shop worker said she was going as quick as she could, Prince replied by stating 'if you're going to take your time I'm going to come and get you'.

"The worker said she wasn't intimidated and was putting up with what he was saying."

Prince then stormed out of the shop and went over to a motorised door forcing it open and breaking its motor valued at £950.

Mrs Kingston added: "On interview Prince accepted everything and said he couldn't remember what he said but probably did say it.

"He was willing to pay for the damage caused and went back to the store to apologise. While that did happen he also offered somebody outside for a fight so it wasn't a sincere apology."

Chris Reid, mitigating, said that Prince had since been barred from the shop, he accepted overreacting and that the language used was unacceptable.

Mr Reid added that their was already existing problems with the door's motor but the defendant accepted opening it in a forcible manner.

Magistrates ordered Prince to pay £950 compensation to the shop and a £15 victim surcharge.

This was to be added to outstanding court fines of over £2,000 which he was paying off at £10 a week.

He was also given a 18 month conditional discharge.
