CELEBRATE National Libraries Day on Saturday by joining a library in Herefordshire, and choosing one of four exciting new library cards designed by an undergraduate student from Hereford College of Arts.

Last year a group of 70 art students responded to the challenge of creating an image that had the theme of books and reading or something local to Herefordshire that would look good the size of a credit card. The project was organised by Aine Venables and Neil Hadfield from the BA (Hons) Illustration degree course, and the chosen cards were designed by Miranda Smith, Natalie Price, Nuala Hussey and Charlotte Phillips.

“There was a huge range of inspired ideas to choose from and finally after much debate the librarians chose four new cards. There is a card for babies, as you are never too young to join the library, another for children, one that will appeal to teenagers and another for adults,” said librarian Anne-Marie Dossett.

It is free to join the library, but if you are all already a member of the library and want one of the new cards you can give a small donation and choose your favourite.

All the designs for the library cards will be exhibited in Ross library from April 4 to 18 and at Leominster Library from May 3 to 14 during the Herefordshire Libraries Book Festival.
