A concert of international players and singers is to take place at St Mary's Church in Hay on Wye on Saturday (January 30) at 7.30pm. They are performing Bach's wonderful B minor Mass. The small choir is formed of soloists who have performed nationally and internationally at such venues as Glyndebourne, St Martins in the Field and the Proms. The orchestra, the Rochford Ensemble, come from across Great Britain and Germany and is led by a member of the Berlin Opera orchestra.

This is a special concert as it marks the final concert after 15 years of a series of concerts by the Rochford Ensemble in Hay and also the 90th birthday of the founder Jeffery Babb. Back in the 1970s he founded the Anglo-German Youth Music course as a post-second world war initiative to foster relationships between the two countries and many of the players taking part are former members. This is concert of thanksgiving both for many years of collaboration between Great Britain and Germany and the kindness of the people of Hay on Wye.

Tickets are £15, including refreshments specially provided from the continent, and are available from Castle Greengrocers in Hay and will be available on the door.
