A NEW Year’s Eve party in a county village ended in a mass brawl with two men being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One man in his 20s and another in his late teens were badly injured as violence erupted during the early hours of New Year’s Day in Credenhill.

The fight started shortly after the men had left a party in the village social club.

The group was walking back towards the centre of the village through Station Road when the violence began close to the junction with Trenchard Avenue.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said crews were called at around 2.25am to reports of a fight in progress.

The man in his 20s sustained serious chest and shoulder wounds, while the man in his late teens sustained a serious wrist injury.

The Hereford Times understands the injuries were caused by broken glass.

One local resident returning from a New Year’s party with his grandson said he was confronted with the sight of half a dozen emergency vehicles blocking the street.

“There were loads of blue lights flashing - we wondered what was going on,” he said.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “There was shouting and a lot of swearing in the background of the call.”

“There was a fair bit of blood which we had to clear-up from the ambulance afterwards.”

CID attended the scene and police closed the road for several hours.

Credenhill Councillor Bob Matthews said mystery currently surrounded the incident, as details were hard to come by.

“The police obviously know who they are as they were at the club drinking together,” he added.

Detective Constable Peter Bradbury said: “We are keen to speak to anybody who was part of the group, as well as anyone who may have been in the area after their New Year’s celebrations.

“Please call police on 101.”
