THE new year sees a new editor taking over the reins at the Hereford Times.

Clive Joyce is retiring after 46 years in local newspapers and leaves on December 31.

He started as a trainee at the Hereford Times in 1969 and edited the award-winning Kidderminster Shuttle for more than 20 years before returning to Hereford in May 2014.

He said: “It was an unexpected opportunity to return and edit a paper that is very special to me and I am grateful to so many people for their support over the last 19 months.

“The newspaper and its website are in good shape and we have made solid progress as newspapers continue to develop new ways of gathering and delivering news for the 21st century."

The Hereford Times is the biggest selling weekly newspaper in Newsquest Media Group’s portfolio of 130 titles in the UK and is widely recognised as the paper of record for Herefordshire.

"Alongside the traditional newspaper, we have a website audience of more than 200,000 users a month and 30,000 social media followers, the majority being local, and so we have a phenomenal reach into the community we serve," said Mr Joyce.

The new Hereford Times editor Peter John takes up the post on January 1.
