A BRICK brack bridge over the River Wye is not an uncommon sight in Herefordshire, but why is this one covered in black marks?

Photographer Mick Morris has asked Hereford Times readers whether they know what the markings are on Bredwardine bridge.

He said: "I haven't got a clue what it is and I hope people will have some idea of what they are.

"I don't know whether they could have been from advertisement boards years ago. People who travelled on the river with goods would have had to pass through this bridge on the way to Glasbury.

"There is no footpath so I couldn't see whether there are similar marks on the other side.

"It's quite interesting and I would like to hear from people who know what it is, not think they know what it is."

Mr Morris also thinks that it could have been a toll bridge due to the position of a cottage on one side.
