ON the evening of November 26, Ross and Monmouth Sea Cadets held a special presentation evening. The evening was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Lady Darnley as the VIP and the unit was also visited by the Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Russell RN on an informal unit visit.

The evening began with the ceremony of Colours, Prayers and an Inspection of the Ships Company by the Lord Lieutenant. This was then followed by the presentation of awards, promotions and qualifications to the cadets. Six cadets were presented their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards and two their Offshore Power level 2 badges following their week offshore on the Sea Cadets Training Ship John Jerwood.

Cadet first Class Roberts N was presented with the Units award for Best dressed, whilst Cadet first Class Williams T was awarded the trophy for Endeavour. Best attendance awards were given to Ordinary Cadet Chinn and Junior Cadet Marchetto.

Following the awards Lady Darnley gave a short speech to the cadets and guests. In the speech she kindly launched the units expansion plan which involves the formation of a Royal Marine Cadet detachment, a new building to secure the longer term future of the unit which means the raising of some £250000 of which nearly half has been secured. In order for this to be successful the unit is actively looking for adult helpers who are prepared to be trained to deliver the training to both Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets and anyone who is prepared to assist the Management Committee in the project.

After a short break the six cadets who have completed their Duke of Edinburgh Silver gave a short presentation of their expedition to everyone and a unit photo was taken to record the evening. The guests were then given a tour of the unit.
