POTHOLES in two Leominster car parks are so bad that a town councillor fears someone might be seriously injured if they are not repaired soon.

Councillor John Rumsey said the potholes in the Cheaton Close car parks owned by social housing provider Stonewater, have been left untouched for at least four years.

They have grown so wide and so deep that there are fears someone could be injured while some vehicles have been damaged after hitting the road defects.

Cllr Rumsey said: "They are about six inches deep some of them, while others are more.

“They are quite large. For residents walking about at night, they could put their foot down and could break their leg.

"Most of the neighbours have been complaining about it. It feels like we have been banging our head against a wall and they [Stonewater] have said they have spent their budget on fly tipping. It really is a big issue.”

One local resident, Ashley Griffiths, said he has had to replace two wheels on his vehicle as a result of the potholes.

When they are filled with water it is difficult to see just how deep they are, added Cllr Rumsey, who fears the damage will only get worse once the winter weather sets in.

"Surely they get an allocation of money for road and car park repairs,” he said.

In a statement, Stonewater said it is aware of the issue concerning potholes around Cheaton Close.

"Work on the areas within Stonewater's responsibility has been actioned," it said.

"We are currently awaiting contractor quotes and expect repairs to be complete by the new year."
