412 store cattle: A strong entry of store cattle met a packed ring of buyers and a sparkling trade selling to £1,225.

A quality entry of steers met a very keen trade topping at 264 pence for a consignment of Blonde D'Aquitaine steers from Mr G Williams. The steer entry was dominated by stronger sorts of feeding steers achieving a top price of £1,225 for a British Blue cross steer (550kg) from Mesr BC and LS Bayliss. Longer term yearling steers were easily placed selling to £1,100 for three British Blue yearling steers from Mr I W Seymour. Yearling steers sold between 220p/kg - 264p/kg.

Feeding steers also showed strong demand throughout the sale, with native and continental bred achieving prices of £1,225, £1,200, £1,185, £1,160, £1150, £1125, £1,110, £1,100 (three times), £1,080, £1,050 (twice), £1,040, £1,020. Overall steers averaged £948 and 194p/kg.

An entry of 183 heifers saw a strong trade achieving a top price of £1,120 for a consignment of Simmental cross heifers from Mr PJ Waters.

Well bred yearling heifers were easily placed selling to 218p/kg for a run of nine British Blue cross heifers from Mr IW Seymour. Strong feeding heifers sold to £1,120, £1,100 (twice), £1,080, £1,050 (twice), £1,020 (three times), £1,010, £1,000. Better quality feeding heifers sold between 200 - 210p/kg. Overall heifers averaged £785 per head.

Cows with calves at foot: A short entry of cows and calves met fierce demand selling to £2,060 for a Simmental heifer with a calf at foot from Mr GT Van Der Gucht. In calf cows sold to £860 for a 10 year old Limousin cross cow.

Dairy cows to 1,750gns at Ross-on-Wye, 44 forward: Dairy cattle sold to an excellent trade which was much better than everyone anticipated after other markets up and down the country reporting difficult trades.

Top price was 1,750gns for a 2nd calver from Richard Legge, Bromyard, which was one of 32 cattle from him as he started dispersing his herd. Other 2nd calvers from him sold at 1,650gns (twice), 1,600gns, 1,580gns, 1,550gns (twice), 1,520gns, and 1,500gns, with all of his cattle averaging £1,150.

The best of the calved heifers sold to 1,500gns with bulling heifers selling to 600gns.
