I WRITE in response to Ray Borge's letter (Angry over 'commercial use of library', Readers' Times, November 5), that erroneously gave the impression all companies selling charity Christmas cards are pyramid sellers. Cards for Good Causes is an organisation selling charity Christmas cards in over 300 temporary outlets across the country, including Leominster Library. It is not involved in pyramid selling.

Cards for Good Causes Limited (CFGC) is the trading subsidiary of a registered charity, The 1959 Group of Charities, which is a membership organisation of 25 major national charities.

Cards for the 25 member charities are sold in all our shops and we also help around 275 other national and local charities in this way.

Cards are supplied from the charities. Our shops are staffed by dedicated shop managers and over 6,000 volunteers helping to raise funds for the charities we represent.

We pay the participating charities (or their trading subsidiaries) at least 70p in every pound from their card sales, less the VAT payable on the amount retained by CFGC.

The retained amount covers CFGC’s costs of running the charity Christmas card shops. In addition to these costs, the participants have to pay for the production and distribution of their cards.

For further information on CFGC, please see cardsforcharity.co.uk.
