AN effigy of Herefordshire residents’ most hated celebrity - or dictator - is to be burnt at the stake at a fireworks display this weekend.

Votes are being cast to decide who should be the face of the huge effigy which will be burnt at Hereford Round Table's event at the city's racecourse on Saturday. (November 7).

Those in the running are FIFA president Sepp Blatter, Russian president Vladimir Putin, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, outspoken Katie Hopkins, former One Direction singer Zayn Malik or controversial TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

The effigy will be revealed on Friday, ahead of the event on Saturday which is expected to attract more than 5,000 people.

Luke Conod from the Hereford Round Table said: "This is just a little bit of light-hearted fun instead of the usual guy on the bonfire."

It is believed that this will be the first time this has been done in the Midlands.

Gates open at 5.30pm at Hereford Raceourse and entry costs £10 for adults and is free for children accompanied by an adult. Funds will be raised for county charities during the event.
