FUNDRAISERS across the county have been doing their bit to raise money for a cancer support charity, including those who have seen the help first hand.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support was held last Friday.

Sisters Lucy, 27, and Michelle Morgan, 30, and family friends Deborah Lloyd and Joyce Bounds raised more than £1,700 at their annual fundraising coffee morning at the Hay-on-Wye Conservative Club.

The sisters lost their mother, Jackie Morgan, to the disease in 2013 – Deborah Lloyd and Jackie Morgan ran their first coffee morning for the cancer charity together three years ago.

The event was supported by Co-operative food stores in Hay and the surrounding area who provided tea, coffee, cakes and raffle prizes and the money raised.

Lucy and Michelle Morgan, said: “It was a fitting venue for the event as our mum, Jackie, regularly enjoyed socialising and, playing darts for the club.

"We were keen to do what we could to help others and are thrilled that such a fantastic sum has been raised which can now be put to good use and, help to make a difference to the lives of others.”

Independent gym, Bodycise at Stretton Sugwas, raised £486 at its coffee morning.

Staff at the Macmillan Renton Unit at Hereford County Hospital supported the event by holding a coffee and cake sale in the main reception, and raised £1,281.47.

Sainsbury’s Hereford and Cakes and Catering in Hereford donated cakes.

Lianne Haslam, assistant multi-disciplinary co-ordinator Macmillan Renton Unit, said: “We work closely with Macmillan Cancer Support to provide services for people affected by cancer, such as the purpose built Macmillan Renton Unit at Hereford County Hospital, which promotes long term cancer care in a modern environment.”

The Macmillan coffee morning held at Belmont Community Centre raised more than £317, which was organised by ward councillor Tracy Bowes and the South Wye Community Association.
