A VILLAGE bowls club has taken the honours in two of the county’s premier competitions.

The men’s and ladies Herefordshire champion of champions are both members of Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for the club and a perfect end to a season which has seen the club go from strength to strength,” said chairman Lester Bennett.

Griffiths, playing at Weobley against club champions from across the county, won a tight quarter final against St Martins' Ady Poole 21-19, cruised past Cheryl Morgan from Eardisland 21-8 in the semis and went on to win her first champion of champions title 21-18 against Ann Walters from Bodenham.

Edwards, playing at St Martins, beat Bob Loveridge (Eastnor) 21-5 in the quarter-finals and last year’s winner Alan Rudland from Weobley 21-14 in the semis to set up a mouth-watering encounter with this year’s under-18 England champion, Ledbury’s Tom Holmes.

The match lived up to expectations with Edwards taking his third champion of champions title 21-20 on the day before his 27th birthday.
