THERE was something for everyone at Herefordshire's Festival of Sport with plenty of activities for young and old alongside the more serious running and cycling events - and there was the bonus of a bit of sunshine.

The event started as a 10K and two mile fun run in 2012, aiming to promote good physical and mental health.

Organisers are Fit+Healthy Minds, a partnership between Herefordshire Mind and  Fit+Healthy

The event has grown over the years to become the Herefordshire Running Festival last year and now, the Herefordshire Festival of Sport which included cycling for 2015 in partnership with NFTO & NFTO Race Club.

The aim remains the same - to promote better mental wellbeing, social inclusion and community involvement and to encourage runners and/or cyclists of all levels from recreational to club to elite to work towards their own goals and targets as they enjoy running and/or cycling through the stunning countryside of Herefordshire.

Richard Danks, director of Fit + Healthy, said: "It was an amazing weekend in terms of the amount of people that turned up and participated and also that came and joined in with the festival village and took part in the activities.

"It was overwhelming. Everyone was overwhelmed. We were blessed with the sunshine which allowed everyone to relax and really enjoy the activities ."

He said there were 1,000 participants in the sporting events across the weekend and more than 2,000 spectators.
