THE last bell might be sounding for Ledbury Amateur Boxing Club which faces closure unless new premises can be found.

The club, which currently has 35 members, is run by Fred and Helen Florence of the Deer Park estate, and their son Alex ‘Pinky’ Florence, aged 18, is the men’s light welterweight amateur champion for central England.

However, it has to leave its premises on the Homend Trading Estate by the end of October because its sponsor Malcolm Sutherland of Ledbury Holdings Limited, who has let them use their building rent free for the last six years, now needs to use the premises.

Mrs Florence said: “We must stress that we are very grateful for all our existing sponsor has done for us, allowing us premises rent free for six years.

"We paid the water, the electricity and the bills, but now he has a different plan for the building.

"We are not upset with him, but very grateful, however is nothing else in Ledbury for the kids."

Ledbury’s mayor, Cllr Annette Crowe is now on a desperate search for sponsorship for the club, to help it move and survive.

She said that they club can looking for premisses, sponsors or a piece of land in order to continue.

Ledbury, who carried on last season despite being locked out of New Street due to mounting debts.

They were scheduled to play Wellington Reserves last Saturday, but due to ongoing negotiations between the club and landowners Property Solutions Ltd, the fixture was postponed.
