SUNDAY saw the 68th year of the annual Madresfield Vintage Car Rally and although numbers of participants and those attending were down, there was good-humoured support in spite of torrential downpours and competitors sitting in open top lovely old cars holding onto umbrellas, causing much hilarity.

This event has been going since 1947 and is organised by the Vintage Sports Car Club. The drivers continued in the rain although some trials were brought forward to try to avoid the worst weather. There were some splendid vehicles taking part in what should have been a wonderful setting, but fog on the summit of the Malvern Hills limited visibility and the day was mired in rain.

Members of the Ledbury Rotary Club who were on catering duties with David Vale cooking up delicious bacon and sausage baps, had to physically tether the gazebo against the driving winds that threatened to upturn the home made cakes and take off and queues formed to buy hot tea and coffee with home made cakes. President Bernie Robertson said that although their taking were less than in previous years, the monies raise will all go towards the Community Chest Charities supported by Rotary.
