THE Hereford Stampede flag football team are to play their first home game on Sunday – the first time any form of American Football would have taken place in the city since the demise of the Hereford Chargers.

The side will take on the Cheshire Caviliers at Hereford Leisure Centre in a best of three series that will start at midday.

The Stampede have already beaten Merthyr but lost out to a strong Reading Lions side.

Even though flag football is a non-contact sport, it is similar to American Football.

The basic rules are the same, but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier.

The Stampede's ultimate goal is to to turn to American Football and be in a league next season.
