A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital following a collision near Whitney-on-Wye on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to the A438 at around 10am to reports of a collision involving a car and a horse box which contained furniture.

Fire crews from Hay-on-Wye, Eardisley, Kington and Hereford attended as well as a Droitwich incident support vehicle, three ambulances, a Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and a paramedic area support officer.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, had to be cut free from the vehicle and was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, having sustained injuries to her shoulder, leg and hip.

The passenger of the car, a woman in her 80s, had some chest and leg pain and was immobilised and taken to Hereford County Hospital by ambulance.

No one travelling in the horse box vehicle was injured.
