THE Pembridge Show trotting races produced five hard-fought races under BHRC rules on a tight, turning mile-long track.

An enthusiastic crowd saw Leominster farrier Lee Morris continued his purple patch of form with a double victory.

Ystwyth Valley, owned by his father, Patrick, obliged handsomely in the Grade 1, while Graham Hammonds’ dour Ginger Man stuck to his guns well to hold onto the Grade 2-6 Handicap.

Pembridge is always a favourite track for long-standing supporter Alan Westwood, and his wife’s homebred filly, Sandstorm, battled bravely to lose her maiden status.

Emma Frieze is more used to driving on the wide Canadian tracks, but partnered Brywins Gucci round Pembridge’s tight turns with good effect to cruise clear in the Novice event.

The Winner Takes All consolation race was a ding-dong affair, with the likeable Jamie Davies just holding the advantage at the wire with Lowri Jones’ Style Matters.

The next trotting meetings are this Sunday (August 2) at Aberystwyth and Sunday, August 9 at Allensmore. Both start at 2pm.
