WHEN a church wanted fish in its font, Malcolm Edwards was hooked.

After all, it was the font in which Malcolm was christened.

Malcolm grew up to run Kenchester water gardens with its huge range of fish just a fin flap away from St Peter’s church, Lyde.

The fish font is a centrepiece as St Peter’s gets set to celebrate its patron – the fisherman St Peter.

So, this week, Malcolm popped in from over the road with a pair of Oranda.

“Fish in Church” is a week of events at St Peter’s from Saturday.

“We are dedicated to Saint Peter and we are opposite Kenchester Water Gardens, so once the theme had been mentioned the idea took off,” said Rev Penny Littlewood.

“Kenchester have been very supportive. Malcolm loved the idea from the start. He was christened at St. Peter’s and fancies the idea of fish in the font,” she said.

St Peter’s will be specially decorated for the week with the PCC planning “a cross between an aquarium and a fisherman’s hut” to stage “fishy fun.”

Fish in Church ends with a special service on Sunday, July 28 – with , marking the feast of St Peter with – fish and chips.
