BRYAN'S Ground in Stapleton, a noted garden near Presteigne, on the border with Radnorshire, which helped with its plantsman David Wheeler's recovery from cancer, raised well in excess of £1,000 for St Michael's Hospice during a public open afternoon in mid May.

The 160 visitors enjoyed sunshine, refreshments and eight acres of delightful idyllic garden and arboretum on the bank of the River Lugg, with Simon Dorrell, the garden's architect, and art director of the best selling gardening quarterly journal Hortus, in attendance. David Wheeler was abroad at the time leading a group on a gardening tour.

Paddy Nugent, the Hospice community fundraising officer, was extremely pleased with the public interest and support, and thanked Simon and David for the privilege of having the garden opened specifically in aid of St Michael's Hospice. Allan and Angela Lloyd were also present in their role as leaders the Reaching Out For Radnorshire Campaign which is aimed at increasing awareness and support for the hospice in mid Wales.
