A YOUNG deer seen wandering at Hereford racecourse this morning (Fri) gave would be rescuers the run around.
Dashing this way and that to elude all recovery efforts, the feisty roe - thought to be no older than two - wouldn’t even come quietly when the police arrived to assist volunteers from Bodenham-based Herefordshire Wildlife Rescue (HWR).
Officers considered closing Roman Road but, such was the roe’s demeanour, it was deemed too risky to try and “herd” him across to open fields.
The “rescue” effort has been put off until tonight (Fri) with the roe contained as best it can be on the racecourse, where it is believed to have been since last night.
Sasha Norris, of HWR, said a tranquilliser would be considered if all other options were exhausted.
