A MOCK election at a Hereford college saw a win for the Green Party candidate.

The event, staged at Hereford Sixth Form College, saw the Green Party candidate take 32 per cent of student's votes.

Labour came second with 24 per cent, followed by the Conservatives with 22 per cent.

The Lib Dem candidate received 12 per cent of the votes while UKIP came last with 10 per cent.

And members of the newly formed Herefordshire branch of the Young Greens are celebrating news that national membership of the Young Greens has reached 17,700 – making it the largest youth wing of any political party in the UK.

Daisy Blench, young Green general election candidate for North Herefordshire, said:

"The Green Party puts young people at the heart of our policies - with free university education, a living wage, better public transport and decent, affordable housing.

"Many young people have to go elsewhere in the country to find jobs, due to the lack of local opportunities in North Herefordshire."

The youngest of Leominster's seven new town councillors is young Green, 20-year-old Andy Gibson.
