TWO Leominster sisters have received awards for their dedication to supporting events in their town.

Jennifer and Susan Chapman both received Leominster Civic Awards at a recent town council meeting.

The sisters, who have also previously been recognised for their fundraising efforts, said they were 'delighted' to have received the honour.

They said: "We were invited to a meeting about three weeks ago, not knowing why, and then the mayor presented us with our awards.

"We were a bit taken aback. We thought 'wow, this is about us'. It was an appreciation of our support of the events of the town. We always attend functions and generally support anything happening in the town."

The sisters have also helped to raise funds for the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen – which helps fishing families in times of crisis – for 50 years.

Last year, they were presented with certificates in recognition of their dedication.

They added: "We are really continuing the work of our parents.

"We were delighted and feel very privileged to think we were chosen out of the whole town to be presented with these awards."
