A TOWN’S “last piece of green land” must be preserved, angry residents urged councillors at a planning meeting.

Harpers Group Construction Ltd is asking for permission to build 35 new homes on land off Westcroft in Leominster.

The pitch is the latest in a long-running battle against development on the site for residents, who attended Leominster Town Council’s West Street offices to voice their concerns.

The council heard this was the third time the site had been targeted by developers and that a plan for eight homes had been refused in 2003.

Amanda Winney, who led the protests 12 years ago, said this patch of land was “all that was left”.

Residents also outlined concerns about pollution, traffic and the negative impact on wildlife.

Councillor Peter McCaull agreed with many present, saying he was “dead against” the development.

“This is one small patch of land that needs to be preserved,” he said.

Councillor Denise Kerwood added that the land is “creating a lung” for the area at the moment and is a valuable asset.

The town council unanimously voted to submit a formal objection to the development.
