A WEOBLEY couple’s diamond wedding anniversary united friends and family from Wales, Northern Ireland and England.

Glynn and Marcia Williams, 87 and 85, last week celebrated 60 years together with a grand celebration at Weobley village hall.

Mr Williams said there were more than 70 guests including the happy couple’s six grandchildren and three children.

A farmer’s son, Mr Williams – from Weobley – had an illustrious rugby career playing for Cardiff, Gloucester and Glamorgan alongside internationals such as Cliff Morgan, Jack Matthews and Gareth Williams.

Glynn added: “I’ve been very fortunate to play with some wonderful players.

“I started by playing as a full back at school with my two brothers and I played ever since.”

The couple met in 1948 at Aberystwyth University, and for Glynn the secret of their successful marriage has been cooperation.

“We love and trust each other,” he added. “There are some difficult times, you accept that, but we’re both there for each other at the end of the day.”
