THESE two welders had no time to admire the view as they worked on the troop ship Nevasa at the Barclay Curle yard at Whiteinch, Glasgow in 1955.

The Nevasa, the first of a new generation of super troopers' was built for the British India Steam Navigation firm and at 20,527tonnes was the line's biggest ship.

In 1964, with the need to transport troops disappearing, she was converted into an education cruise ship for school parties.

Sadly, with the 1970s oil crisis, in June 1975 she was consigned to a breakers' yard in Taiwan. Warmer waters perhaps, but a long way from her Clyde home.
