THE search for Leominster's new fish-taster, ale-taster and bread-weigher will be officially launched tomorrow.

The Hereford Times reported last month how Leominster Town Council had backed an initiative to re-introduce the historic appointments.

Records show that in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the town employed two fish-tasters, breadweighers and ale-tasters whose job it was to ensure that the food and drink available for sale was healthy and drinkable.

As the civic authority, Leominster Town Council will decide on the new appointments and it is hoped they will be formally made as part of the summer’s Leominster Festival.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the roles can go to Corn Square at 11am tomorrow where the Town Crier, a representative from Grange Court and others will be giving a re-enactment of the actual process that will be undertaken.

Information packs will also be given to any interested parties.

If you cannot make tomorrow's event but are interested in taking on one of the roles, contact Leominster town clerk Paul Russell 17 West St, Leominster, call 01568 611734 or email townclerk@leominstertowncouncouncil.co.uk by March 27.
