MORE than 500 people in Leominster signed a petition to halt privatisation of the NHS.
Councillors Jenny Bartlett and Felicity Norman were among campaigners taking part in a 'Save our NHS' morning of action in the town last Saturday, helping to gather signatures for a national petition.
Councillor Norman, mayor-elect of Leominster, said: "It’s very important for people in the public eye – and everyone who values our health service – to make a stand on this vital issue.
"The NHS has been part of our lives for 67 years, but now it’s make or break. The NHS isn’t getting the funding it needs - the government is letting private companies carve out profits from treating the sick."
She said many people the campaigners spoke to were very concerned and many members of the public have a sense of what is at stake.
"The national petition calls for greater investment in the NHS and end to creeping privatisation," she added.
"The service needs protecting from US health corporations by keeping it out of the TTIP trade deal with America."
