FOLLOWING its triumph at last year's Borderlines Film Festival, more than 2000 people have seen Chewing the Cud - Memories from Hereford's Old Livestock Market as it toured all four corners of the county and beyond.

And, like well-trodden drovers’ routes, its popularity shows no end. “Loved it to bits. So well conceived’ said one happy audience member from Garway.

Screenings have attracted farmers and non-farmers alike, drawing murmurs of recognition, chuckles, laughs and even the odd tear. As one film-goer said: ‘it is an important record of an important part of Hereford history.’

This truly local, entertaining and warm-hearted film, produced by Hereford-based Catcher Media Social, portrays the showmanship and characters that gave the old Hereford Livestock Market its vibrancy and unique heritage, bringing life, character, zest and vigour to the city for many years.

Chewing the Cud has now been produced on DCP (digital cinema package), which means it can be shown anywhere in the world. The producers are pleased to announce that they have, therefore, submitted the film to various film festivals locally and internationally, including the acclaimed documentary festival, Sheffield's DocFest.

In an unexpected direction, and as an added bonus, the film’s very own ‘geocache’, which uses GPS to create a treasure hunt around the old market site, has proved to be very popular. For a more detailed rundown visit the film's blog at chewingthecud.net. Meanwhile, the filmmakers are planning their next project – ‘Son of Cud’ as it was dubbed by one witty audience member.

There is another opportunity to see Chewing the Cud tonight, when it is screened at The Globe in Hay-on-Wye at 8pm and Hereford Library on Saturday, April 11 at 2pm.
