YOUNGSTERS armed with sacks and litter 'grabbers' gave Hereford city centre a clean sweep.
A litter team of 14 young people who are linked to the city’s Close House Project – a scheme supported by a £5,000 grant from Police & Crime Commissioner Bill Longmore – cleaned up the area with help from Hereford's Mayor Len Tawn.
The project is focused on encouraging disaffected young people to become active and useful members of their community, building self-esteem and providing positive alternatives to the petty crime, drug and alcohol culture.
The 14 youngsters are among more than 500 young people who went through the Close House doors in 2014, half of whom became members.
The grant helps support a part-time youth volunteering coordinator and the litter pick is one of a variety of initiatives.
