A COUNTY woman is hoping to raise more than £1,500 by hosting a 10-hour spinathon to support a project that tackles poverty in Zimbabwe.

Rosie Walsh, 23, of Yarkhill, will travel to Zimbabwe in March to work on a development programme for five months with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO).

She will team up with Zimbabwean volunteers to tackle some of the problems facing the local community.

The 10-hour spinathon will take place at Hereford Leisure Pool on Saturday March 14 from 8am to 6pm and Miss Walsh is hoping to recruit 12 teams of 10 people each to take part.

Prizes are on offer to the teams that cycle the furthest, raise the most sponsorship money and achieve the highest climb.

Miss Walsh said: "Spinning is a popular sport which anybody can have a go at so I am hoping the people of Herefordshire will embrace the challenge and help me to raise vital funds for the VSO's International Citizen Service (ICS) programme which I will be taking part in."

ICS allows young people aged 18-25 to contribute to long-term development projects in countries like Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone and Nepal.

The particular project Miss Walsh will be working on aims to raise awareness of Sexual Reproductive Health amongst young people, improve access to healthcare, and to empower youth to become active citizens in their own communities.
