AN HGV driver caused his vehicle to jack-knife on a busy route out of Herefordshire after trying to avoid a falling tree, it has emerged.
The A40 at Glewstone, near Ross-on-Wye, was blocked for two hours this lunchtime.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency, which was sent to the scene, said a farmer had decided to trim back some trees close to the road in light of this morning's high winds.
But as he did this, a tree fell down onto the road and into the path of the HGV which jack-knifed into the central reservation.
The farmer then helped the HGV driver turn the vehicle so it was facing the right way.
No-one was hurt but the westbound route was blocked between 12.30pm - 2.30pm.
Police were also called to the scene.
