STAFF and pupils at the John Masefield High School have certainly been eating well, in support of Big Breakfast Week and Ledbury's own"Big Breakfast" initiative.

Cafes, pubs and other businesses will be offering tempting breakfasts of all kinds on Friday, January 30 and Saturday January 31.

But tucking in started early at the High School.

The school's business manager, Wendy Bradbeer said: "We have been holding a variety of events to join in with the Breakfast Week in Ledbury.

"The plan was to promote our breakfast service for students throughout the week with special offers and different food available, from kippers to eggs Benedict."

She added: "We have also organised a Staff Big Breakfast, to take place on Friday, January 30, at 8am."

The planning was down to teacher Roger Oaten, who said it was intention for students in particular to be aware and get involved in Breakfast Week, to be aware of local food producers as well as the importance of eating breakfast every day.

He said: "Lessons during the week have a breakfast theme and will link up to existing lessons with each year group."

This week, Year 7 students were making breakfast muffins, and Year 8 pupils were planning and making a bread based breakfast product, to highlight the importance of arable farming.

Students in Year 9 were taking a look at what makes for a healthy cooked breakfast and Year 10 students were making breakfast pastries.

And Year 11 students were given the task of designing and making breakfast sausages.
