A HEREFORD primary school celebrated its centenary with a balloon release and a visit from the city’s bishop.

Monday was the day when St Thomas Cantilupe CE Primary School commemorated 100 years since the building first opened as the Hereford High School for Girls and began educating youngsters at the site.

The Bishop of Hereford, Richard Frith, was among those present and he attended a service of thanksgiving at the school to mark the milestone.

Pupils then released 100 balloons, which was followed by a fish and chips lunch.

Last Wednesday, many of the past pupils who had attended the school when it was a high school for girls were given tours of the Coningsby Street school by current year six pupils.
