STUART Greig-Williams would win anyone over with his love of football.
So a charity game was the obvious choice to mark his memory.
That game’s success first time out will see it go on.
“Little Stu”, as the 24-year from Hereford was affectionately known, died at Hereford County Hospital’s intensive care unit last August having been admitted in a coma he never came out of.
Family and friends have been back to the unit to present £2,100 raised in Stuart’s name.
The sum was raised partly through a charity game between Stuart’s friends and a Hereford United XI and donations at his funeral.
Stuart’s TV and games console have gone to the children’s ward.
Stuart was a fixture on the county’s football scene. He came up through the age groups with Pegasus Juniors to be a regular with Phoenix FC and the Booze Boys Sunday side.
He had also qualified as a referee.
Off the field Stuart was a devoted fan of Hereford United with an affinity for Bolton Wanderers that those close could never get their head around.
Sister Lauren said a charity game in the name of her “absolute star” of a brother was now going to become an annual event.
“Growing up all I remember is football; every Sunday morning throughout our childhoods, the copious amounts of pasta for breakfast and the long car journeys to matches. Football was Stu’s life.
“Stu was such a lovely person, always up for a laugh, had many friends and was a really fun-loving character who will be sorely missed.
But his memory will live on forever through this tournament that we propose to hold annually,” she said.
