AYMESTREY PARISH HALL - Following the completion of the new kitchen extension the Parish Hall Committee is hosting an open event tomorrow from 2pm to 7pm. Everyone who gave assistance and help with the building is welcome to go along to see the new kitchen, the details of the work and the future plans for the hall.

CAFÉ @ THE CHAPEL - The regular Thursday morning ‘Café at the Chapel’ at the Chapel in Chapel Lane has returned and will be available every Thursday from 10.30 till 12 noon. The café provides an opportunity for anyone to call in for an informal chat over a cup of tea, coffee, etc, on Thursday mornings. Everyone is welcome to stay for as long as they wish. No charge is made for refreshments though donations are welcome and are given to a charity. This is a joint venture between St Michael’s Church, Bodenham and Bodenham Christian Fellowship and is hosted by members from both churches (and other local residents). TRAVELS WITH A CAMERA - The next Travels with a Camera event will be tomorrow at 7.30pm and will feature A Celtic Pilgrimage. Travels with a Camera serves many purposes. It is a way of broadening the mind without having to leave your normal comfort zone, and it provides an excellent opportunity to socialise with like-minded neighbours.

New members are positively encouraged.

A KNIT-IN - The Bodenham Romania Support Group will be holding a knit-in at 7 Ash Grove View, from 2pm till 4pm today.

100 CLUB, JANUARY DRAW RESULTS - The Friends of St Andrew 100 Club draw took place in the Red Lion Inn on January 8.

This month the draw was made by Tracy and Chris Duke. First prize of £50 was won by Alison Morgan and Andrew Coates with ticket number 84. Second prize of £25 was won by Andrew and Ildi Head with ticket number 20. Third prize of £15 was won by Liz and Paul Stewart with ticket number 99. LOCAL FUNDRAISING - Jenny Goddard, chief fundraising officer from Macmillan Cancer Care was the guest of honour when she visited The Shop at Bromsberrow to collect a cheque for the sum of almost £600. Staff held a French pastries and freshly ground coffee event that was attended by many customers and supporters in the small rural village. The amount was raised from the raffle and games proceeds, sales of books and refreshments. Thanking all those present, Jenny Goddard said she was delighted to meet everyone at the shop and was extremely grateful for the hard work to raise money for the Macmillan cause. Chairman Andrew Perry commented that it had been great fun for staff and customers to become involved with the hugely important initiative, and having a community shop is the key to engaging with the idea of good citizenship.

SCHOOL DECORATIONS - Canon Pyon CE Academy are delighted by the generosity of Sainsbury’s Hereford in donating a selection of their colourful decorations displayed on the shop floor over the Christmas period to the school.

Store manager Alan Logie commented that customers had given the store lots of positive comments regarding decorations this year and he is delighted that the school will be using them next year. Alan hopes that the school get as much enjoyment from them as Sainsbury’s customers and colleagues did this year. Alison Taylor, deputy headteacher at Canon Pyon CE Academy took delivery of the decorations and said that the school would be putting them to good use. On behalf of the pupils, she thanked the team at Sainsbury’s Hereford for their generous donation.

GARWAY HERITAGE GROUP - Herefordshire archaeologist Tim Hoverd will give an illustrated talk about the archaeology of Herefordshire deer parks at the Garway Heritage Group’s first meeting of the year, on Tuesday, 7.30pm at the Garway Village Hall.

Deer parks, which originated in medieval or earlier times, provide a unique insight into the fashions, the customs and the provision of sport and entertainment for an affluent elite over a thousand or so years.

Today’s surviving deer parks reflect the landscapes of the time and place in which they were created and the changes in economic function and ecology over the years.

All are welcome to this meeting.

HOLMER WI - At our first meeting of 2015, member Maureen Graver spoke about her visit to the Serving African Mission in Ghana, which was organised in conjunction with Holmer Parish Church.

Mrs Graver’s inspirational talk was accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation which clearly showed the colourful and vibrant people and places she encountered. Wendy Burge and Jean King, Holmer church members who went with Maureen to Ghana, were also at our meeting and joined in with their fascinating and informative recollections.

Our ladies were later joined during refreshments by Holmer vicar Steven Lee.

The next Holmer WI meeting will be on February 5 about Victorian dolls at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall next to the church. All new members are very welcome.

MONEY FOR AIR AMBULANCE - The residents of Pontfean, housing estate in Knighton were delighted to receive £150 in donations from people who came to look at their festive house lights.

A donation box was placed in the centre of the estate for the many people who each year come to look at the very brightly decorated houses.

Pat Bywater said “On behalf of all the residents who decorated their houses for Christmas, I would like to thank all the people who came to see them and left donations.

“We decorate our houses every year but this year decided to raise money for a good cause and we are delighted to have raised so much money for the Wales Air Ambulance.”

COFFEE MORNING – There will be a coffee morning on today from 10.30am – 11.30am in the Norton Street, Baptist church schoolroom. Coffee, tea, bric-a-brac stall, cake stall. Admission is free – there is a box for donations.
