CENTENARIAN Jack Strange won’t go back to Hereford County Hospital after spending nine hours in the A&E department during the festive period.

He was admitted by his GP who had ordered intravenous antibiotics to deal with the 100-year-old’s chest infection.

But once there he waited for two-and-a-half hours in a corridor and a further six in a cubicle on December 30.

Sandra Morris, his daughter, said five and- a-half hours passed before any questions were asked while it took almost another two hours before a doctor became free.

Mr Strange was eventually admitted onto a ward at 11pm – some nine hours after first being taken to hospital and no antibiotics were administered in this time.

“It would have been better for dad if I’d collected the antibiotics from the chemist,” added Mrs Morris, who claims the hospital is simply too small to accommodate the numbers needing its services.

The former engineer is now back at his home in King’s Acre, Hereford, but is adamant that he won’t return to the hospital.

Mrs Morris said their GP would like her dad to return to hospital because he is a poorly man.

“But he is terrified that he will have the same treatment and is too frail to go through all that again,” she added.
