THE legacy of a Hereford teen continues as money is still being donated in his memory.

Alex Naylor from Presteigne set a fundraising target of £10,000 after he found out he did not have long left to live.

He hit the target after Herefordians responded in their droves but sadly died days later on October 27, aged 19, from T-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia .

Money continues to come in on his Just Giving page and along with offline donations stands at almost £18,700 to go to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Arrowfield Veterinary Practice Ltd in Kington, when Alex's mum, Mandy, works has raised £700 by selling tickets for a Christmas hamper.

Mandy, dad, Bob and brother, Louis said they are immensely proud of Alex.

Mandy added: "This was a selfless act in the final days of his life. After Alex was told his leukaemia was incurable, he knew his goal of helping others by becoming a nurse wasn't going to be achieved, so he set himself a task of raising funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and raising awareness of this devastating disease.

"Unfortunately, we are all too aware of the devastation that leukaemia causes to both the young and old. Alex's inspirational act had a massive impact on all those that knew him and the wider public and his target to raise £10,000 was met within nine days.

"Alex died just two days later and I know that it was his wish to keep his fundraising going. I would like to thank all those who have already donated or raised funds in Alex's name but let’s not forget his determination to beat this disease and keep his legacy to beat blood cancer.'

Stephanie Cade, from the charity, said the money will be invested in their lifesaving scientific research to find better treatments and cures for all patients with blood cancer.

She added: "Nearby Birmingham is central to the work we do and we currently have £14million invested in multiple blood cancer research projects and clinical drugs trials in the city.

"The University of Birmingham coordinates the charity’s innovative Trials Acceleration Programme, which works to improve access to new drug treatments for blood cancer patients via a network of 13 hospitals across the country."

Alex's family would love to see the fundraising total reach £20,000 by the new year. To donate go to www.justgiving.com/alex-naylors-page
