A PENSIONER says it is “frightening” driving out of his street in Hereford because of the number of motorists parking their cars on the roadside.

Douglas George Thomas says the problem on Court Crescent in Hinton has got worse in recent years.

The 69-year-old says those living in the street, off Hinton Road, voted on introducing a residents’ parking zone back in January 2013, but believes they may have to wait until 2016 to see it enforced.

“It is frightening to get out at this junction because you have got to get into the middle of the road to see,” he said.

“Now they tell us it will take another two years plus to do the job. This is not on.

“Why should we have to put up with the parking and the dangerous junction?

“I think this is a bigger priority than the yellow lines going up on Aylestone Hill, considering the width of the road.”

Ward member Cllr Bob Preece said the vote among Court Crescent residents for the parking scheme was almost unanimous, but he added it can take time for the scheme to be implemented.

“It takes three years to get a Traffic Order done,” he said, adding he has previously pressed council transport bosses on why the work cannot be processed more quickly.

“So, officially, it will be done in April 2016.”

He said he is aware some people park in the crescent all day “to get around” city centre parking fees.
