FURTHER praise has been heaped onto John Kyrle High School from an Ofsted inspector after reviewing how it teaches its most-able students.

Gwen Coates went to the Ross-on-Wye school as part of a Ofsted national survey- the report does not lead to a grading of the school.

It will inform a national report from Ofsted on good practice to be shared with all schools in the spring.

She attended on November 19, where she had talks with the headteacher and senior staff, before she spent time with a selection of most-able students from year 8 and the sixth form.

Dr Coates also met with Karen Frost, chair of governors; Dan Breary, headteacher of Brampton Abbotts, one of John Kyrle’s partner-primary schools and middle leaders.

She said there was highly-effective practice at John Kyrle in its provision for and the standards gained by its most-able students, although pointed out every student mattered, irrespective of ability.

Dr Coates was impressed with the quality of teaching and learning and the way in which students felt challenged and supported.

She acknowledged the school's sixth form achieves among the highest standards nationally.

Headteacher Nigel Griffiths said he was delighted with the visit and commended his students and staff for the way they presented themselves during the inspection and how they evidenced the strong culture for learning at John Kyrle.
